# GHG Protocol Tutorial

> Calculate your organization's complete carbon footprint following GHG Protocol standards

Learn how to calculate your company's complete carbon footprint using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, the most widely used international accounting tool for measuring greenhouse gas emissions.

## By Emission Scope

Understanding which Scope your emissions fall into helps with reporting. These are the three scopes as defined by the [GHG Protocol](https://ghgprotocol.org/corporate-standard):

### Scope 1: Direct Emissions

Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by your organization.

### Scope 2: Purchased Energy

Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from purchased energy. This includes electricity, heating, and cooling.

### Scope 3: Value Chain Emissions

Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions from your value chain. This includes emissions from: purchased goods, services, capital goods, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream and downstream transportation, waste disposal, business travel, employee commuting, upstream and downstream leased assets, processing, use and end of life treatment of sold products, franchises and investments.
