Understanding Products Sold Emissions

Category 5 under ISO 14064-1 covers indirect GHG emissions associated with the use of products and services provided by your organization. This includes emissions that occur after your product leaves your gates - during customer use, from downstream leased assets, franchises, and investments.

What Will Be Included

Category 5 will cover the following emission sources:

Use of Sold Products

Track emissions from customer use of your products, particularly energy-consuming products like appliances, vehicles, and equipment.

Downstream Leased Assets

Track emissions from assets you own that are leased to others (when you don’t have operational control).

Franchises

Track emissions from operations of franchisees operating under your brand.

Investments

Track emissions from your financial investments, allocated based on ownership percentage.
Applicability AssessmentCategory 5 is most relevant for:
  • Manufacturers of energy-consuming products
  • Fossil fuel producers
  • Companies with franchise networks
  • Financial institutions with investments
